The growth and advancement of many industrial processes have led to improvements in the design and efficiency of valve and pumping equipment, the centrifugal pumps. These are frequently used in water treatment, and manufacturing plants, food processing, sewage, chemical and petroleum industries for handling low viscous fluids, valves are also extensively used in propulsion systems. With many such varieties of applications, it is necessary to have a feasible design to handle such complex flow phenomena.

Flow optimization through a valve leads to an increased volume per unit time flowing through the valve. It becomes essential that the valves are as small as possible without restricting the volume flow rate that can pass through; this can be effectively simulated in order to optimize the designs for multiple configurations of valves.

CRADLE has an advanced capability to handle such dynamic simulation with its overset meshing approach and with the six degrees of freedom rigid body motion. Moving elements can be computed by obtaining pressure and viscous stress of fluid and motion of a rigid body to which external force is applied from the equation of motion. Mass and moment of inertia of the portion moving as the rigid body are calculated automatically from its material property to construct the equation of motion. The collision of a body with a wall can also be considered by using the coefficient of restitution.
