Integration of controls system software with Adams using Adams Controls Plugin

The proliferation of control systems embedded in mechanical systems means that it is hard to find industry applications where control systems are not present. From industrial automation to active vehicle dynamics to spacecraft dynamics controller systems are interacting with complex mechanical systems. Designing controller behaviour based on a linear representation of the mechanical system is commonly practised and, with some care, produces reasonable results. Investigating the true dynamic interaction between controllers and complex, high-fidelity mechanical systems is the domain of Adams and Control system software via Adams/Controls.

Adams Controls, part of the Adams 2020® suite of software, is a plugin to MSC Software’s Adams Car, Adams Chassis, Adams View, or Adams Solver that helps you add sophisticated controls to your Adams model. Adams Controls lets you connect your Adams model to block diagrams that you've developed with control applications such as Easy5® or MATLAB® or Other control system software that support the FMU architecture.

The Webinar would give a brief overview of the following topics:

  • Introduction to Adams Controls Plugin.
  • Different ways of simulating with Adams Controls- Function evaluation, Control system import, Cosimulation.
  • Defining of inputs and outputs using Adams control
  • Types of communication mode in Adams controls- Pipes, TCP I/P, Direct
  • Validating of the FMU with FMU checker

Mr. Saurabh Saste is a Senior Engineer in the Technical Support group at MSC Software. Saurabh has been focused on Adams controls related simulations. His interests include FMU, discrete cosim, Model exchange strategies for effective control system integration techniques, System dynamic Simulations, Real-time simulation and process automation. He has also been working on projects related to the VTD (Virtual Test Drive) ROD designer and Scenario editor plugins.
