Aero-acoustics is the branch of science that deals with sound waves that are generated due to the aerodynamics or turbulence from the surfaces of engineering applications. Aero-acoustics is important because of the growing concern in the noise levels generated by engineering applications such as propellers, rotors, aircraft engines, nozzle, etc. Challenges faced in modelling aero-acoustic problems include the less dissipative and less dispersive requirements in addition to the length and velocity scaling issues inherent to the problem. The solution strategy most commonly employed is to solve for acoustic sources in a CFD solver and then using the output from CFD solver as an input to the acoustic code.

Actran is the premier acoustics software to solve acoustics, vibro-acoustics, and aero-acoustics problems. Actran has been widely used by automotive manufacturers and suppliers, aerospace and defence companies, and consumer product manufacturers. Actran helps engineers better understand and improve the acoustics performance of their designs. scFLOW is a next-generation CFD tool that uses unstructured mesh to accurately represent complicated geometry. scFLOW is capable of solving aerospace and automotive aerodynamics, the performance of fans, pumps and other rotating equipment, design problems of electronic devices, multiphase phenomena, marine propeller cavitation, and varied problems.

By attending this webinar, participants will get a brief understanding of the usage of powerful acoustic simulation software Actran and CFD software, scFLOW. The webinar also offers a live demonstration of an aero-acoustic test case setup integrating both scFLOW and Actran. Karthik has the perfect combination of an experienced researcher, a successful academican and an emerging technology strategist. Karthik now works as the Technical Manager, Indo-Pacific at Hexagon | MSC. In his role, Karthik is responsible for the Technical and Business Development activities of CFD Solutions and also handles Academic, skill development and transformational business initiatives. Karthik holds a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from Brunel University and Bachelors in Industrial Engineering. He has recently submitted his Doctoral research thesis in high speed flow physics using experimental and computational methods.
