Real-time thermal simulation of printed circuit boards

Printed circuit boards (PCB’s) forms the essential component in an electronic device that connects various electronic components to form an electronic circuit. PCB’s are subjected to heat which are generated from the chips. Accurate heat balance is essential so as not to raise the temperature of the electronic components above their threshold operating temperature. Real-time thermal simulation of PCB’s helps us to optimize the spatial arrangement of the electronic components across a PCB.

Typical thermal analysis tools require a longer time to calculate and attain simulation results. Analysis results can be generated real-time using PICLS with less complexity. Software Cradle’s PICLS is designed to minimize the tasks of design engineers in the upstream design phase. Using the tool, design engineers can perform thermal analyses of PCBs during the conceptual phase of the development, where drastic design changes are still possible. Through simple setting and fast calculation, thermal distribution can be shown spot on to evaluate the effectiveness of thermal countermeasures.

Karthik has the perfect combination of an experienced researcher, a successful academican and an emerging technology strategist. Karthik now works as the Technical Manager, Indo-Pacific at Hexagon | MSC. In his role, Karthik is responsible for the Technical and Business Development activities of CFD Solutions and also handles Academic, skill development and transformational business initiatives. Karthik holds a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from Brunel University and Bachelors in Industrial Engineering. He has recently submitted his Doctoral research thesis in high speed flow physics using experimental and computational methods.
