There are three main challenges for CFD engineers :

  • dealing with imperfect or ‘dirty’ CAD data
  • time to solution (computational speed)
  • accuracy.

But when it comes to human workload, most of the time spent by engineers is dedicated to clean the imperfect CAD.

Our proposition is to skip the time spent on dirty CAD by using our unique CFD meshing technology and increase productivity by 10X.

  • For applications requiring very high accuracy, the new Voxel Fitting Mesh algorithm in Cradle CFD’s scFLOW program enables CFD mesh to be generated automatically from imperfect CAD data. The Voxel Fitting Mesh can automatically correct non-watertight CAD, thin gaps, overlaps and other imperfections during meshing process.
  • For applications where boundary layer resolution is not critical, the structured meshing of Cradle CFD’s scSTREAM program requires practically no CAD cleanup and can efficiently handle very large models containing 1000’s of parts. Moreover, scSTREAM provides very fast meshing (20-30 million cells in few seconds), low memory usage (approx. 6M elements for 2GB RAM) and outstanding computation speed (26 millions elements in 3 hours using 6 cores).

Engineering simulations are challenging. More so if they involve different physical disciplines and computational tools. Even more so if those software tools need to run in a coupled way. Welcome in the realm of Multiphysics and co-simulations.

Hexagon is tackling the Multiphysics challenge thanks a portfolio of best-in-class single-physics tools orchestrated by MSC CoSim, a co-simulation platform. Linear and non-linear FEA, multibody dynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics and granular dynamics (DEM) can all be coupled and have demonstrated realism and productivity in complex, industrially-relevant scenarios.

In this webinar, we will showcase some exemplary applications where single-physics would not be realistic enough.
Then we will focus on an example relevant for aerospace engineers: flutter analysis of a wing in transonic regime by using Hexagon’s Cradle CFD scFLOW, MSC Nastran and MSC CoSim. We will show that this workflow can predict the transonic dip, whereas traditional flutter analysis methods would fail.
